July 25th, Celebration of the Anexión's Day The Vl Guanacaste Festival Will Provide Seven Tradition-Filled Days
By Oliver Pérez
From Monday, July 19th until Sunday, July 25th, visitors will be able to participate in various cultural programs and activities at the colonial town. Zulay Valenciano, Nicoya's Education Regional Director, explained that the preparations for what will be a big celebration for the whole province are well underway, with the goal of recovering the traditions and habits of the Guanacastecos. "The aim is to rescue the area's traditions and our goal during this activity is that we will all be able to experience our Guanacaste identity and therefore, we wish that everyone participates", invited the organizers. The soccer field at the Liceo de Nicoya, which is located on the east side of the local airport, will be the main site where all the cultural activities will take place.
Just so you have an idea of what's being planned, between July 19th and the 23rd, the activities will focus on the area's elementary and high schools. The main part of the cultural activities will take place on July 24th, starting at 8 a.m., with a parade that will begin in front of the Tribunales de Justicia and which will have the participation of 200 typical dancers, 250 masquerades and 4 cimarronas (folkloric bands). In the exhibition area visitors will be able to enjoy the presence of the famous bull, El Malacrianza.
On the 25th, the parade will start at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Tribunales de Justicia and will end at the colonial town's park. There the Consejo de Gobierno, along with several cultural acts to the sounds of the marimba, will take place. Activities will start at 9 a.m. and admission to all of them is free.
